The northern Michigan town of Traverse City – known as the Cherry Capital of the World and famous for its Montmorency Tart Cherries – is not about to be outdone by the Big Apple.
On New Year’s Eve, this small ‘in comparison’ city on the shores of Grand Traverse Bay on Lake Michigan drew an estimated 12,000 revelers to welcome 2011. A sea of wall-to-wall people turned out for the second annual New Year’s Eve celebration, which doubled as a chance to donate non-perishable food items to the needy in the region. Balmy temperatures (for northern climes), music and a pyrotechnic/ fireworks display added to the spectacular.
The Cherry-T Ball Drop: looking forward to next year’s event when we’ll again be comparing apples to cherries.
